Original Story
  • “Hotel development proposal could displace Buffalo, NY business owners” — Wikinews, February 17, 2006

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Buffalo, New York —Buffalo, New York developers have been stymied by old real estate deeds.

The prospective Elmwood Village Hotel may be scuttled and businesses now located there may be forced to move.

Frustrations over property located in an area once known as “Granger Estates” circulate around a clause in the original deeds over land divided by then-owner Erastus Granger in the early 1800’s.

According to the documents, “no business establishment of any kind whatsoever” shall ever be constructed on the property, and they shall forever be exclusively for residential use only. Also prohibited are barns, farms and stables.

Sam Savarino, CEO of Savarino Companies, the prospective hotel developer, announced that his legal research team found the restrictions on properties located between 1109 and 1121 Elmwood Avenue which also stated in part that “no businesses, hospitality establishment of anykind whatsoever” shall ever be permitted to be built on the property.

Savarino, whom is expected to contest the restrictions, said that his company could have ignored the findings, but that, “we can’t risk the future of a multimillion-dollar project on the hope they wouldn’t be discovered. Our opponents would have had a field day if they’d surfaced after the fact.”

Savarino said his attorneys and researchers are anticipated to determine “exactly what weight the restrictions carry and if there’s a way for the courts to negate them.”

Existing businesses are also jeopardized.

Hans Mobius, owner of some of the restricted properties upon which a carriage house is built, said, he wasn’t aware of any restrictions, and “never had a reason to research the deed and title documents.” He confidently added that, “the lawyers can get this taken care of.”

Other threatened businesses include Don Apparel, H.O.D. Tattoo, Forest Plaza Art Gallery and Allentown Music.

LASER DENTISTRY(Dr.shachindra Dental care)

The term LASER stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. The light can be focused to do very fine, precise work.. Lasers are named for the material that is stimulated. Therefore, in a diode laser, the stimulated substance is a semiconductor that is ideally suited for soft tissue procedures. We focus on the soft tissue diode laser and its extensive uses in soft tissue procedures, teeth whitening and pain therapy. Lasers are broadly classified as hard tissue (Er:YAG laser) and soft tissue laser (Diode laser).

Using laser, many of the surgeries and procedures can be painless, minimally invasive with minimal post-operative discomfort and excellent healing. The prospect of undergoing a surgery, especially dental surgery, scares the bravest among us due to the conventional treatments with scalpel and the bleeding and pain associated with it. No one wants surgery. Imagine a technique that can eliminate all the pain from surgeries. Patients require little or no anaesthesia for most of the laser procedures. This technology is helping dentistry gain confidence of people and their popularity among patients is unparalleled.

The beauty of utilizing lasers is that they allow many dental procedures to be performed with no noise and very little pain. Laser dentistry combines a laser with a water/air spray that etches and shapes target tissues without contact, heat, vibration, or pressure.

Other benefits of laser dentistry over traditional methods can include:

Reduced heat and vibration

Little or no need for anesthetic

High precision

Little or no bleeding

Faster treatment time

Less post-operative pain and swelling

Fewer pain medications/antibiotics

Increased rate of curing/bleaching

Laser dentistry is perfect for teens, children, and adults etc. who wish to seek an alternative to the sound associated and discomfort with drills. This technology is helping dentistry gain confidence of people and their popularity among patients is unparalleled.

Our Laser dentistry Treatment procedures are safe and comfortable.our clinic functions on the concept of providing expertise of the various specialists in dental surgery to provide the top most dental care to the patients.

Preventive Dentistry (Dr.shachindra Dental Care)

Dentistry is India is mostly need-based , and somewhere over time we dentists are also only looking for frank cavities and symptomatic teeth. But what about the initial stages ,where cavitation has still not taken place. Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy. This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear, and more.

We are talking about WHITE SPOTS , FISSURAL STAINS,INITAL STAGES OF ENAMEL WEAR (WEAR FACETS)

CAVITATION is the terminal , non-reversible end of the disease process;and can only be treated by Restorative means.

Deep fissures in the molars , premolars and the cingulum if ignored will also inevitably lead to a carious lesion; hence should be taken care of by fissure sealants.

It is treatable BY NON-INVASIVE MEANS,and can be maintained in an inactive form, using products that initiate Remineralization :i.e. dental creams containing Tricalcium phosphate which forms a FLUORAPATIATE like coating on the tooth

WEAR FACETS if left unattended would again progress to bigger lesions: so need to be taken care of immediately.

The WHITE SPOT lesion is not a distinct form of caries but a stage of the carious process all the more reason for a dentist to pay attention.

Keep reading to learn more about the steps you can take to keep your teeth healthy.

Brush Your Teeth Daily

The most important part of preventive dentistry is to brush your teeth daily with fluoride toothpaste approved by the American Dental Association (ADA). Most people should replace their toothbrushes three to four times per year or as the bristles start to fray.

Dont forget to brush your tongue. This will help remove bacteria from your mouth and also help freshen your breath.

Floss Daily

Daily flossing is also recommended. Flossing helps to clean out the tight spaces between the teeth. If you have braces, you may need to use floss threaders to get between the metal brackets.

TEETH WHITENING TREATMENT(Dr.Shachindra Dental care)

Any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gum or bite is known as the science of dentistry. Maybe, for the simple thought that it is not considered as some disease. However, discolouration, staining or yellowing of teeth is as essential as any other dental treatment. In fact, it is a preventive measure which acts as a forearm to fight future diseases. It is strange that why we choose to live with discoloured yellow and stained teeth when it can easily be treated.

For many teeth whitening is something that is only for celebs. However, it must be noted that white teeth also showcase healthy teeth. It is always better to smile confidently than hide your teeth by chuckling when you want laugh loud.

THERE Are any Teeth whitening systems and products .some products are over-the-counter gels, whitening toothpastes, strips, and teeth whitening products obtained from a dentist.

Teeth whitening is a ideal technique for people who have unrestored teeth (No fillings) and gums.individuals with yellow tones to their teeth respond best.this is a cosmetic procedure.

Whitening systems.

All toothpaste can help remove surface stains.some whitening toothpastes contain gental polishing or chemical agents that provides stain removal effectiveness.whitening toothpastes can lighten the tooths colour about one shade.

Our Teeth whitening Treatment procedures are safe and comfortable.you can only require one visit and result of visibly lighter teeth can last anywhere from some months depending on diet ,lifestyle and oral hygine.

While you are with us our main aim is to create relaxing environment for you.simply sit back and you enjoy the simple whitening procedure.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

Wikinews interviews spokesman for Greek far-left party Xekinima

Monday, May 3, 2010

Wikinews reporter Iain Macdonald today interviewed Petros Tzomakas, a Greek far-left activist and member of Xekinima, which is the Greek division of the Committee for a Workers’ International. The party is a member of Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA).

Tzomakas also sits on his local 5th Athens Municipal District committee, which is a joint effort by left-wing parties including SYRIZA, the Anticapitalist Left Cooperation for the Overthrow and a number of other political parties to oppose austerity measures proposed by the government. All left-wing parties in the country except the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) are involved. Tzomakas explained that the KKE prefers not to co-operate with other radical left-wing groups.

The interview comes amid tensions in cash-strapped Greece, where the government is introducing controversial austerity measures to try to ease the nation’s debt-problem. An international rescue package has been prepared by European Union member states and the International Monetary Fund – should Greece require a bailout; protests have been held against government attempts to manage the economic situation.

Neuroscientists tell Wikinews about empathy and harm aversion observed in lab rats

Thursday, April 30, 2020

In findings published last month in the journal Current Biology, neuroscientists from the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience examined harm aversion in laboratory rats for conspecifics — rats not wanting to hurt other members of the same species — and reported which region of the brain was crucial for it. Wikinews caught up with Dr Christian Keysers and Dr Valeria Gazzola, two of the authors who contributed to the paper.

For the experiment, the rats were put in a container with two levers. The rats were trained to develop a preference for one of the two levers: each delivering one pellet of sucrose. One of the two levers was harder to press.

After developing a preference, the preferred lever was wired to deliver a shock to another rat in a neighbouring compartment, while delivering a single pellet of sucrose. The study showed the actor rat, which pressed the lever tend to switch the lever to avoid shocking the other rat. The rat receiving the shock was called a victim rat.

Aversion of harm to fellow rats was reported to be equal in both male and female rats. If the actor rats were previously exposed to the shocks, their degree of harm aversion for others was heightened, the study revealed.

The investigation reported the rats avoided pressing the preferred lever to shock another rat, even if that lever delivered two sucrose pellets and the no-harm lever delivered only one. However, this was not the case when the rats were given three pellets by the shock lever. Most of the actor rats did not switch when they received three pellets pressing the lever, which also delivered an electric shock. Dr Gazzola called it a “tipping point” and said it was a “cost-benefit” function.

The study also revealed the importance of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) region of the rat’s brain for harm aversion. The scientists tested harm aversion for conspecifics in the rodents after deactivating the ACC using muscimol. Muscimol was injected in the rats belonging to the test group, while saline water was injected to rats in the control group. The observations showed without the active ACC due to muscimol, the active rats in the test group were no longer averse to harming the victim rats, but degree of harm aversion did not drop in the control group rats.

Plan your subsidiary company in Canada with reduced tax rates

by

Ken DonaldsonThe concept of introducing low tax rates for business can be explained by the government in number of ways. There are plenty of locations present around the world where companies can create their subsidiary to get tax benefits. It is completely different from tax returns or benefits an individual living in Canada or non residents could enjoy. When a country allows investments from around the world, it is focusing more on overall economy and foreign investments. Though the offered rates are very less, suitable for off-shore teams to make more profits, it will indirectly help tax havens to get benefited. To know more about levied tax rates and other information, you need to consult an experienced tax accountant.

It is beneficial to consult an individual tax accountant to know information of creating a new business or selling it without legal issues. More often companies willing to operate in offshore destinations fail to follow the tax rules followed. This may not create any legal issues in the initial stages. But it does not mean businesses cannot face any issues related to the failed tax filings. To start a business no matter within your country or in offshore tax haven destination, understand the rates and terms completely. Hiring an individual consultant to carry out this tax related issues can eliminate your burden completely.

An offshore investment with low tax tariff can help you to cut costs on a greater scale. When you audit the profits and make an assessment even before you start your business, you can understand how beneficial it is. When you follow the rules in the right direction, the investments can bring multifold profits. As Canadian Revenue agency do not allows every company to start their offshore subsidiary, getting sufficient knowledge will help investors. Expert international consultant working in Canada not only deals with domestic rules. You can get consultation for any tax related queries around the world.

When it is more beneficial for even governments of different nations, individuals should capitalize on the advantages of tax havens. Individual businesses can get distracted towards using these terms in a misdirected way. Though loop holes help to abuse certain terms of tax exemptions or reducing interest rates, it will create definitely create legal issues in future. When you are abused by other organizations based on this option, it is good to get advice from the tax accountant to face it legally. When you can get this advice from the consultant through online, do not hesitate to post your tax related queries.

Businesses and individuals worldwide to turn lights off as part of Earth Hour 2009

Friday, March 27, 2009

Earth Hour 2009 takes place Saturday, March 28, 2009 between 8:30 to 9:30 pm local time when communities will participate by turning out their lights starting in New Zealand and progressing along time zones around the world.

Earth Hour began as a symbolic initiative against global warming by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). “[It is] The largest demonstration of public concern about climate change ever attempted.” Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General said.

Earth Hour began in 2007 with around 2 million participating, and increased to about 50 million in 2008. The Empire State Building, Las Vegas Strip, the Eiffel Tower, Petronas Twin Towers, the Peace Tower, the Parliament Buildings, the Christ the Redeemer statue, Acropolis of Athens, the Egyptian pyramids, and the Colosseum are some notable landmarks which will honour Earth Hour Saturday evening.

WWF organisers wished 1,000 cities would enlist in Earth Hour, however this was surpassed as this year over 2,400 have signed up to take part.

“The Government of Canada’s continued participation in Earth Hour is an indication of our commitment to being mindful consumers. As the custodian of one of the largest office building portfolios in the country, Public Works and Government Services Canada is committed to incorporating environmental practices into waste management, water conservation and the efficient use of energy in our buildings.” Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Service said.

“Supporting Earth Hour is part of our commitment to help create a healthier environment for Canadians. Simple actions such as turning off the lights can help improve our environment and tackle climate change as well as empower Canadians to make important lifestyle changes that benefit their families and their environment. We encourage Canadians to take part in Earth Hour.” Jim Prentice, Minister of the Environment.

‘Davos man’ versus ‘Camp Igloo’; 42nd World Economic Forum convenes in Swiss alps

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel gave yesterday’s opening address to the 42nd meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), which is facing a distinctly different geo-political landscape from twelve months ago. Outside the WEF security cordon, in the sub-zero temperatures of Davos’ train station car park, the local incarnation of the Occupy movement are setting up ‘Camp Igloo’; but, with little hope of the archetypes of the 1%, ‘Davos Man’, arriving by public transport and seeing their sub-zero protest.

David Roth, heading the Swiss centre-left’s youth wing — and an organiser of ‘Camp Igloo’, echoes much of the sentiment from ‘Occupy’ protests around the world; “[a]t meetings the rest of society is excluded from, this powerful ‘1 percent’ negotiates and decides about the fate of the other 99 percent of this world, […] economic and financial concentration of power in a small, privileged minority leads to a dictatorship over the rest of us. The motto ‘one person, one vote’ is no longer valid, but ‘one dollar, one vote’.”

Roth’s characterisation of ‘Davos Man’, a term coined by the Professor Samuel Huntington of Harvard University, is more emotive than that of the late professor who saw ‘Davos man’ as “[having…] little need for national loyalty, view[ing] national boundaries as obstacles that thankfully are vanishing, and see[ing] national governments as residues from the past whose only useful function is to facilitate the elite’s global operations”.

As Reuters highlights, many attendees will opt to make their way from Zurich to Davos by private jet, or helicopter, and the WEF itself provides handouts indicating the cost of such is 5,100 Swiss francs (approx. 5,500 USD, 3,500 GBP, 4,200 EUR). In contrast: travelling by rail, even when opting for first class — without an advance booking, is 145 Swiss francs (approx. 155 USD, 100 GBP).

Shifting fortunes see several past attendees missing this year’s exclusive get-together in the alpine resort; for a second year running — and now caught up in the UK phone hacking scandal being scrutinised by Lord Leveson’s inquiry — media mogul Rupert Murdoch will not be attending. Nor will the former head of financial services company UBS Oswald Gruebel, who resigned in the wake of US$2.3 billion losses incurred through unauthorised trading; likewise, Philipp Hildebrand, the ex-head of the Swiss National Bank, is absent following scandal associated with his wife’s currency trading activities; and, although the sexual assault charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn were dropped, having stepped down as managing director of the International Monetary Fund Strauss-Kahn will also be absent.

As the #OccupyWEF protesters were building igloos last weekend, an anti-WEF protest in the Swiss capital Berne was broken up by police, who stated their intent to prosecute participants in the illegal protest. Allegations of calls for violent protest action led to a high number of officers being involved. In the aftermath, charges of breach of the peace are to be brought against 153 people, with some targeted for more serious offences. At least one group involved in the protest described the police response as “disproportionate”.

At ‘Camp Igloo’ Roth says he is seeking discussions with the WEF’s expected 2,000 attendees; but his voice, and that of others in the worldwide ‘Occupy’ movement, is unlikely to be given a platform in the opening debate, “Is 20th-century capitalism failing 21st-century society?” He, and others taking part in this Swiss incarnation of the ‘Occupy’ movement, are still considering an invite to a side-session issued by the World Economic Forum’s founder, Klaus Schwab; commenting on the invite Roth told the Associated Press they would prefer a debate at a more neutral venue.

As has been the case for several years now, the annual Forum meeting in Davos was preceded with the release of a special report by the World Economic Forum into risks seen as likely to have an impact the in the coming decade. The 2012 Global Risks Report is a hefty document; the 64-page report is backed with a variety of visualisation tools designed to allow the interrelations between risks to be viewed, how risks interact modelled, and their potential impacts considered — as assessed by the WEF’s panel of nearly 500 experts.

As one would expect, economic risks top both the 2012 impact and likelihood charts. Climate change is pushed somewhat further down the list of concerns likely to drive discussions in Davos. “Major systemic financial failure” — the collapse of a globally important financial institution, or world currency, is selected as the risk which carries the most potential impact.

However, “Chronic fiscal imbalances” — failing to address excessive government debt, and “Severe income disparity” — a widening of the the gulf between rich and poor, top the list of most likely risks.

At the other end of the tables, disagreeing respectively with the weight last year’s Wikinews report gave to orbital debris, and the Motion Picture Association of America’s (MPAA) fight with the Internet over copyright legislation, the 2012 Global Risks Report places “Proliferation of Orbital Debris” and “Failure of intellectual property regime” bottom of the league in terms of potential impact.

In 2011, with the current global economic crisis well under-way, “Fiscal crises” topped the WEF risks with the largest potential impact in the next ten years. However, perceived as most likely a year ago, “Storms and cyclones”, “Flooding”, and “Biodiversity loss” — all climate-change related points — were placed ahead of “Economic disparity” and “Fiscal crises”.

More mundane risks overtake the spectre of terrorism when contrasting this year’s report with the 2011 one; volatility in the prices of commodities, consumer goods, and energy, and the security of water supplies are all now ranked as more likely risks than terrorism — though the 2011 report did rank some of these concerns as having a higher potential impact. A significant shift in perception sees the 2012 report highlight food shortages almost as likely a risk the world will face over the next decade; and, one with a far more significant impact.

Attending the World Economic Forum at Davos is more than just an opportunity to discuss the current state of the global economy, and review the risks which face countries around the world. With such a high number of political and business leaders in attendance, it is an ideal opportunity to pursue new trade deals.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is, in addition to being a keynote speaker, expected to pursue improved relations with European and Asian trade partners at private meetings on the Forum sidelines. The Toronto Star reports Harper is likely to push forward an under-negotiation Canadian-European free-trade agreement, and hold closed-door discussions prior to next month’s planned trip to China.

Similarly, Canadian trade minister Ed Fast is expected to meet South Korean counterparts to discuss an equivalent deal to the preferential ones between the Asian nation and the US and Europe. Fast’s deal does, however, face opposition at home; the Canadian Auto Workers union asserts that such a deal would put 33,0000 jobs at-risk.

Do you believe discussions in Davos can make a difference globally?

British Prime Minister David Cameron and chancellor George Osborne are expected to discuss a possible increase of UK funding to the International Monetary Fund (IMF); however, with the UK responsible for 4.5% of the US$400 billion in the IMF’s lending fund, backbench MPs have warned that committing any additional funds could provoke a Conservative revolt in parliament. Tuesday’s IMF cut of predicted global growth from 4% to 3.3%, warnings of a likely Eurozone recession in 2012, and ongoing problems with Greek financial restructuring, are likely discussion topics at Davos — as well as amongst UK backbench MPs who see adding to the IMF war-chest as bailing out failed European economies.

South Africa, less centre-stage during the 2011 Forum, will be looking to improve relationships and take advantage of their higher profile. President Jacob Zuma and several cabinet members are attending sessions and discussions; whilst former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to moderate a session, “Africa — From Transition to Transformation“, with Nigeria, Guinea, and South Sudan’s presidents on the panel. Wal-mart’s CEO Doug McMillon is to lead a dinner session, “Shared Opportunities for Africa’s Future” — highlighting larger multinationals looking towards the continent for new opportunities.

Davos may also serve as a place to progress disputes out of the public eye; a high-profile dispute between Chile’s state-owned copper mining business, Codelco, and Anglo American plc over the 5.39 billion USD sale of a near-quarter stake in their Chilean operations to Japan’s Mitsubishi, prompted the Financial Times to speculate that, as the respective company chiefs — Diego Hernández and Cynthia Carroll — are expected to attend, they could privately discuss the spat during the Forum.

Neanderthals ‘knew what they were doing’: Archæologist Dr Naomi Martisius discusses her findings about Neanderthals’ behaviour with Wikinews

Sunday, June 28, 2020

Last month, a study conducted by archæologist Dr. Naomi Martisius and other researchers concluded Neanderthals living in Europe tens of thousands of years ago were more sophisticated than previously thought. The now-extinct species used to carefully select bones from a particular animal species to manufacture their bone tools, the research showed. The research was published on May 8 in Nature’s Scientific Reports journal.

Dr Martisius and her team used five bone tools discovered from Neanderthals’ sites in southwest France for this research. Four of these bone tools were found in a site called Abri Peyrony and the other one was from Pech-de-l’Azé I. These tools were just a few centimetres in size and were about 50 thousand years old, Dr Martisius told Wikinews. Microscopy analysis of these bone tools called lissoirs (smoothers) suggested Neanderthals used these tools for working animal skin to leathers.

The study stated the fauna of the sites were primarily medium-sized ungulates such as reindeer, in one layer nearly 90%. Despite the overabundance of medium-sized ungulates, Neanderthals used ribs of large bovids for making lissoirs. Dr Martisius told Wikinews this was likely due to the physical characteristics of the bovid ribs, which were “thicker” and “stronger” as compared to the “thin and flimsy ribs” of reindeers. In order to check the origins of the bone tools, the researchers used a technology called non-destructive Zooarchæology by Mass Spectrometry (ZooMS).

Instead of damaging the bone artefacts in order to discover its origins, the researchers collected collagen from the plastic containers in which these artefacts were kept. Collagen is a type of protein. These bone artefacts were kept in plastic containers: some were kept for about five years, some for just a few months. During this time, the collagen proteins from bone tools were stuck to the walls of its plastic containers. The collagen samples collected from the walls of the containers are broken into smaller molecules called peptides by using a chemical enzyme called trypsin.

After the trypsin has broken collagen fibres into peptides, it is analysed using a technology called Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer (ToF MS). The assisting matrix is a coloured compound. The acidic peptide is combined with the matrix, vapourised, and peptides are released. Some of them are positively-charged particles which travel across a vacuum tube in an electric field. Depending on the weight of the peptides, these molecules reach the end of the vacuum tube at different instances of time, forming a spectrum. These graphs are like unique fingerprints of a species: they are different for different species of animals. Looking at the database of such graphs, taxonomic identifications of the collagen proteins came be made.

All four bone tools from Abri Peyrony gave positive results and showed that the bones were made from large bovids, even though reindeer were more abundant during that time. One of the advantages of using bovid ribs over reindeer’s thin ribs was the bovid ribs would be more resistant to breaking during flexion, Dr Martisius said.

Dr Martisius said such non-destructive ZooMS analysis was previously conducted, but for tools no older than a few centuries. She said such an analysis had never been previously conducted for artefacts so ancient.

Wikinews caught up with Dr Martisius to discuss this research in-depth.

Welcome to the second installment of this three-part article series, which provides the answers to some of the frequently asked questions of residents looking for karate classes in New York. Armed with the answers to these questions, it is hoped that the reader will move forward with a more sophisticated understanding of the martial art form of karate and will better prepare themselves for the incredible journey ahead!

FAQ: What do I need to wear to my first karate class?

Martial arts instructors in NYC answer: New students generally aren t expected to invest in any karate gear or uniforms ( karate-gi ) for the first two or three months of training. All you really need to wear to the gym is a pair of loose-fitting, comfortable pants or shorts and a T-shirt as long as you can move around easily in them. Once you have decided that karate is for you and you want to assimilate more with this martial art form, you can purchase your gi. Having said all of this, you can get yourself a uniform right at the start of your classes if you wish, as well.

FAQ: How frequently should I attend karate classes?

Martial arts instructors in NYC answer: The more you practice, the faster you ll master the techniques taught to you and the more rapidly you ll progress, say karate instructors in New York. As with most art forms, it s all about practice, practice, practice! Even masters of karate practice their art every day and for several hours per day, too. As a beginner, however, it is recommended that you establish a frequent and consistent practice schedule, which will get you into better physical shape quicker and prevent you from developing bad habits.

For serious students of karate, I would like to see you at least two times per week, says a karate instructor in New York. You must then go home and practice your karate every day for at least an hour. If you aren t spending one hour, four times per week practicing your techniques, you may develop bad habits.

FAQ: When will I start seeing results of my training?

Martial arts instructors in NYC answer: This depends on what you mean by results. Your body will probably take only a few weeks to become accustomed to your training and will soon begin to show greater flexibility, dexterity and strength. Being comfortable and confident with the combat techniques and moves comes with time and practice, so you must be patient, say karate instructors in New York. Many students give up prematurely because they can t fight like Jackie Chan after the second lesson; which is just unrealistic.

Learning a martial art is like learning music and your body is the musical instrument. You need to tune it, do your scales and do your exercises before you can start playing songs. Even then, you begin playing easy songs. After many years of practice and dedication, you will find your skills advancing enough for you to take on some of the master composers! Time, practice, patience and balance is what it takes to become a true master of karate and with dedication, you will get there.
